discuss that question
The nature of exploratin, experiemental and casual research as applied to marketing practice?
You should never take a casual approach to research!
(Oh wait, do you mean "causal research" and not "casual research"?) :-)
Exploratory market research is the initial study of a market, population or product that you know little about. You have no hypothesis and are gathering backgound data to guide future research. This is often accomplished through qualitative methods like focus groups or in-depth interviews.
Experimental market research uses scientific design principles to test a hypothesis. The study should include both test and control groups. A simple example is showing on group advertisement #1 and another group advertisement #2 and comparing their intention to buy the product.
Causal market research tries to determine the causes of specific behaviors. This usually involves regression analysis or a related multivariate technique. For example, demographic and attitudinal data could be used to determine why consumers choose one brand over another.
