I can't figure out if I want to do marketing research for a living or investment research and analysis or be a statistician - anyone have any advice?
Should I get an MBA in Marketing, an MS in Finance or an MS in Applied Statistics?
My 2 cents is....Just about everyone with a Master's Degree has an MBA, so I would not go that route. Finance is good, Applied Statistics is even better because a lot of people do not do applied statistics.
So, ironically, you will be great at marketing the Applied Statistics Degree when you do something like Actuarial Sciences(a form of applied statistics) is a very awesome academic program to do. There are very many job opportunities in just about every industry. The pay is also awesome. Think of the mathematician in the TV show,"Numbers," what he does is applied statistics/actuarial science and he has a very cool job. I just want you to know that it's a cool option to pursue.
Reply:It depends on what you like. With a marketing degree, you can be involved in adverising/marketing products which I think is fun..Do you find yourself coming up with creative ideas to market a product? If you are,,you could be an Account Executive coming up with ads for top companies.
Finance is tough but being a Financial Analyst is a more secure job that be a marketing executive. You don't have to worry that your next big idea is going to bomb. If you like palying with Financial figures, then go for it.
I haven't heard much about Applied Statistics. I haven't heard of anybody being a statistican... but I'm sure there are. I won't major in this...it is rare. You might find it tough to get a job in this.
Goodluck...The fact that you are open to all three make you seem very smart.
