What sort of information are you looking for? You may be able to contract an independent market researcher to do the work for you rather than paying higher rates for a large company. Also you can search Greenbook for local market research companies. If you need more info, send me a email.

Market research info on the urban/hip hop clothing market?

I have a socially conscious based clothing line targeting the urban market. I am in the business planing phase and stuck on the market research part .

the last report i read , this is a 400million a year market, but that dont make sense because Roca Wear alone did over 700million in sales in 2006...

im trying to find something free.

thanks for any help.

Market research info on the urban/hip hop clothing market?
Hi Peace,

This question is a little bit difficult to answer as you have not provided the country you are targeting. Or are you targeting the whole world?

The industry reports you are reading are usually based on the individual country rather than world market. However, company reports will list their worldwide sales. Hope this clears up why the numbers do not make sense.

Good source of info:

However the free version is not comprehensive and you have to search for hours to get what you want.

Hope this helps

What is the effectiveness of using differ ant methods of market research to understand customers, competitors?

The results of any advertising or promotions is more targeted when you do your research. Why waste money when you can find out what doesn't work! Learn about matching your product or service with specific customers looking for what you have with articles, data and reports. And use reputable sources like eMarketer for web based business.

Don't spend too much time looking at competition, you don't want to miss opportunites or trends, but keep an eye on what they do and see if its adaptable in a better format for you.

Doing market research is about working smarter not harder. Good luck, I hope you achieve your goals!

What is the effectiveness of using differ ant methods of market research to understand customers, competitors?
Different methods have different results, I suppose.

Research a traditional company that uses a good marketing Information System to gather data.?

E-Commerce businesses tend to have very sophisticated Marketing Information Systems. In the online environment, it is easier to collect and tract information on visitors and purchasers than with brick and mortar enterprises.Describe how they gather information, the type of information gathered, and how that info helps the company market it's products.

Research a traditional company that uses a good marketing Information System to gather data.?
ip addresses are quite useful

most websites you visit gather statistics purely from how many different visitors they get - which sites they visit and it which order - how long they stay on each site...

mostly all this helps is designing an effective website - say if the average time people spent on your website was 15 seconds you could perhaps say that your website didn't capture peoples attention enough...
Reply:A lot of people use AC Nielsen, not to mention other programs out there. They gather information on point of sale, geographically and up against the competitor so that they can improve merchandising, advertising and sales.

Highlight the impotance of markting research to the implementation of the marketing philosophy?

If you didn't have market research, who would you sell to? who would your customers be? Market research is important because not only do you find out who your potential customers are, but where they live, their income, geographic demographics etc. You also know HOW to price your product competitively, by comparing similar products sold by other companies.

Any ideas on a marketing dissertation question about older people and travel?

Hi I'm doing a marketing dissertaion and want a good research question to base it on. I'm interested in the grey market and the leisure travel industry but am not sure about what question to base my dissertation on. Will appreciate any suggestions or ideas, thanks.

Any ideas on a marketing dissertation question about older people and travel?
you can research what types of things in travel ads, such as photos of people, or places or certain words that seniors respond most positively to. I have read somewhere seniors tend to relate themselves to those about 10 years younger than them. So usually ads that show people in their 50s being active do very well with those just retiring and are in there 60s, they also respond well to pictures of families etc
Reply:yea, i think companies would pay a lot of money to know how much income an older (thinking retired here) person has to make in order for them to be a certain 'kind' of traveller.

ie - week long cruise ship trips to alaska - the average person who is over 65 who goes on this trip lives on 'above $x,XXX.00 dollars a year'

people over 65 who rent RV's and travel the US usually make over $xx thousands of dollars per year.

makes for good graphs for visuals.

gives good, fun options for WHICH types of travel you want to research.

as stated - sellable to companies once you have the information.

also, most companies selling 'go on this trip with us' products keep information on ages participants.
Reply:One that would garner their answers -- and give you channels of discovery would be "what keeps you from traveling more often?"... and that pun of "grey" market should be kept to yourself %26amp; out of print in your dissertation, as it's insulting.

The basis of your work, could be to turn-around the hesistation.. to recognize %26amp; target the though process, beyong "no money to travel" -- since you can focus on those that have plenty of time and savings, and the lifelong thought they were anticipating these days.. and still... don't seem to move around, as easily as they could. Or might. Or, sure might afford.

Job opportunities for marketing and human biology majors?

guys, what are the job opportunities for a person having marketing (market research) and human biology majors and also knowing 3-4 languages (including French and English)?

Job opportunities for marketing and human biology majors?
It depends on finding the opportunity. You have to be experienced in the one intimately, then the other field.

Ideally, you're gearing yourself up for sales, but you have to make sure you have good people skills and can empathize with scientists at their level (which is usually pretty high, don't think lowest common demoninator as taught in your marketing classes).

If you're still in school, look at job requirements now for a sales position and look to getting a laboratory job for a minimum of 24 months. The lab job will give the experience and understanding of what a scientist's life is daily. Then look to switch gears to a sales position after your lab experience - when they ask why you're switching gears - make sure they understand this is your goal in life.

As for incorporating other languages, look for a Canadian position which wants to sell to the US (there are quite a few of these) - this is the only instance where you can incorporate your language skills. Don't anticipate this as a major factor since most of science is done in English anyway - it's not closed-minded, it's true.

After your lab then sales position for some time, you can begin to consider other positions like advertising or marketing.

Finally, if you're considering Pharmaceutical Sales Rep, they typically find you - you don't pick them. Pharm reps go through a different and highly groomed training program to push exactly as they want. Typically, science majors need not apply - they don't want to confuse their customers with your background.

Develop a list off criteria for evaluating market research?

In marketing research everything depends on how you create the questionaire and to whom to ask. There are different scales of formulating the questionaire like semantic differentials, adjective rating scores etc;. Like always try to make the answers short in some like only yes or no, accept, reject etc; so that errors in dillusion can be minimised. Sometimes objective type questions are chosen. So it is very important to choose the scale of questionaire and areas that need to be uncovered which will point to the target need of the company. These are then fed into a statistical study of mean, standard deviation etc; from where even more error correction is done of reporting error, reply error etc; by giving adequate weight correction in the statistical study. It is important to choose the right candidates for the questionaire to be projected at. That pretty much sums up marketing research. If you can get hold of a book which is very old, Marketing Research and Control by Jolson of Unvierstiy of Maryland which has a good explanation of Marketing research it will be worth the effort.

Develop a list off criteria for evaluating market research?
If you are talking about stock market research the main criteria is the actual performance of the recommended stock which you can only evaluate after a certain time. You need to follow the

suggestions of an analyst on paper first; if he was right in the past

he or she will most likely be right in the future.

Do you think all Market Research surveys should carry an incentive? if so what kind?

How much is your opinion worth? is it worth cash? or vouchers? or a snippet of the results? What is the value you place on participating in a 20 minute questionnaire?.

Remember this is about true Market/Opinion Research NOT sales

Do you think all Market Research surveys should carry an incentive? if so what kind?
hey hold on a second this is a market research survey... I'll tell you what I think for a fiver...
Reply:Cash is nice. I earned £5 + a chocolate bar for a 20 minute survey. A gift from the company for whom the survey is being conducted would also help to make the experience memorable %26amp; clearly linked to the product. For example a beer for a beer survey!
Reply:Definitely - at the very least you need a genuine possibility of winning something but I am much more inclined to answer surveys which pay me a small sukm or which give points which earn vouchers (as long as the points total is actually achievable)
Reply:No, I don't think all should do that. If they can get results free, then why pay for them?
Reply:Free gift. A few dollars. Almost anything would work. I think more people would answer honestly with an incentive. I personally would not answer dishonestly but I would probably not participate in a 20 minute questionnaire without some type of incentive.
Reply:The problem with incentives, is just that they can incent people or make them feel guilty into saying good things and not being completely honest. Unfortunately, not everyone is like me and will participate for the sake of marketing. So, you will do better to have an incentive, just know that and note that your results could be impacted by the incentive.
Reply:They used to give you chocolate, I was dissappointed when they gave that up!
Reply:Heck yes, defo some e-vouchers or something, as those surveys often take ages!

How can I get the perfect research for market values on homes?

as an investor.I'm trying to be as close as I could with the value .can I request that thy drop the value so I can make some money. The house has to be under the market value in order for me to invest.

How can I get the perfect research for market values on homes?
There is no such thing as "perfect research" for market value on homes. There are too many factors to consider and they vary. The best you can hope for is a reasonable estimate of probable value.

The definition of "market value," from "The Appraisal of Real Estate, 12th Edition, as quoted by the Soapbox web site (see link, below) is:

"The most probable price, as of a specified date, in cash, or in terms equivalent to cash, or in other precisely revealed terms, for which the specified property rights should sell after reasonable exposure in a competitive market under all conditions requisite to a fair sale, with the buyer and seller each acting prudently, knowledgeably, and for self-interest, and assuming that neither is under undue duress."

Keeping that definition in mind, why would you expect to buy a house "under the market value"? Or, to put it another way, why would you expect the owner to sell it to you below what he could get after reasonable exposure?

Cold calling How do you all feel about someone knocking your door doing market research?
Don't care, their just doing their jobs, market research is pointless cause you just give them funny answers, but if you dfon't wanna respond just say no thank you and they go away.

If something this small bothers someone, I'd love to see the response they'd give if someone pointed a gun in their face, the gunman would have no need to waste a bullet, the hyperactive pillock would have a heart-attack at the sight of it!!!
Reply:i hate it- door to door or by phone. It's so intrusive.

i would rather have spam emails and junk mail- i hate it that much!

i'd have spilt bolognese sauce down my nightdress by that time and so no callers please!
Reply:Yes,its a pain in the neck.I had a sign - No Canvassers

It didn't work because once I pointed it out to them they said they didn't know what it meant!!!! They always call when we are having a family dinner.Like tonight,we were having curry and a man trying to make me convert to british gas was droning on.My partner soon got shot of him!!!!
Reply:I say "No Thanks" and shut the door!
Reply:Stay away from my house!
Reply:Theres nothing wrong with that it doesnt bother me i usually buy whatever there selling i can afford it
Reply:Yes.
Reply:heh it's always a bother, someone offering you something that you don't want like ringing you up and asking if you have an electricity supplier :D
Reply:I don't believe people should be disturbed in their homes, be it at the door or by telephone. TV ads are okay - that's the price you pay for free channels - but no other form of advertising or market research belongs in the home.
Reply:I absolutely hate cold calling of any kind. It feels like they are invading my privacy, but if a questionaire is put through my door I will sometimes fill it out.
Reply:no no no at 2 i get home have coffee 3 get the kids from school sit 4 an hour then its dinner then 5ish eat dinner then homework time then talk time then bath time then kids go 2 bed then its me time so its a nooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Reply:it really really bothers me when they knock on doors we get enough people asking us when we go into town
Reply:It wouldn't bother me at all, as long as it wouldn't bother them when i smacked them in the mouth and let the dogs go.

EDIT..

I Dont giving a flying one if its selling/market research or the frigging salvation army, they all get the same treatment.
Reply:No doesn't bother me at all. its their job. If it is any thing to do with religion or finance.... different matter. shoot them!!!!
Reply:YES! GOD I hate it when strangers knock at my door selling crap or pestering me with questions. And these days it's not safe for the people who go door to door either.
Reply:YES IT F*CKING WOULD!!! Total invasion of privacy!

It's because of cold-calling scum that I don't bother to answer the door anymore.
Reply:I don't like people cold calling at any time of day or night.I am usually quite rude to these people even on the phone
Reply:angry, even more angry than the charamuggers who jump

you on the street, who earn good commission from idiots

who give.
Reply:I hate them. I have a specially made sign in my window telling them not to bother ringing the bell.
Reply:Not really, I'm not fussed about market research.

It's cold selling I hate!
Reply:I don't mind participating in market research by appointment at a time to suit me, but I object to people knocking on my door without prior arrangement.
Reply:Yes, they shouldn't do it elderly or young people could answer the door and some callers who work on commission can be very forcefull. this should be stopped
Reply:yes I bloody hate them and they never take the hint that you might actuallly be busy, they always seem to call just as i'm cooking or have put my little girl inthe bath.
Reply:No one should knock on my door that has not been invited. It is rude and I get mad and tell them so.
Reply:Hate it! Do not bother me in my home. Do not step foot on my property trying to solicit something from me. I would boycott the company just for sending people out to bother me at home. Contact me by mail if you want my business, but don't come knocking.
Reply:Not at all I'd like to see them get over the wall, and past the dobies, yeah I'd be darn interested in seeing them! lol
Reply:I always believe their market research is bogus so I do not participate. 9 times out of 10 I will still answer the door though, I'm just that way. You get what you see with me. Somebody knocks , I open. But that does not mean I will fall for their con.
Reply:dont bother me as long as i have the time

Conduct surveys with people in your area. Check out pricing and availability of similar businesses ( martial arts studios, karate classes,etc..) in your "operating radious" (about 15 to 20 minutes in all 4 directions of where you want the business to be located) and consult with local law enforcement offices about crime statisitics in the area you plan on servicing to get an idea for the actual need.

Where can I find free market research reports on Wal-mart?

What is are the questions you're trying to answer?

Where can I find free market research reports on Wal-mart?
You won't be able to find a Market research report on Walmart or any other business entity. Market research is for evaluating markets not business entities. Probably Walmart might have a market research done on any of it's products which will be very difficult to find since they may not publish their strategic secrets. What you can do to get a market research report is to appoint a market research firm to conduct the research on the subject you have in mind and it will be expensive. Probably what you are looking for is a company report on Walmart. Walmart is not a product or a market so no market research report only Corporate Performance report which you can down load from www.nasdaq.com or link from there to New York stock exchange when you search for the Ticker section.

The long history of promotional marketing is interesting and still relevant. For example Pepsi put alot of money into getting "stuff" a few years ago and most major brands offer some type of item to keep their brand in front of consumers - McD has Happy Meals - containing a toy inside of a branded container, etc. Or focus on the recent Chinese made issues and how it affects marketing. Good Luck

Research on marketing of fresh milk?

What format --- ie email marketing, tv video, audio, web based or just marketing in general??

You can finding stories -- people love reading stories -- about how milk helped someone or write a story of a person who drank milk every day and now he's or she is 100 years old.

Now That's Good Milk!

Is there any kind of record in Guiness World Record that's tied to milk?

Market Research: Would you pay to have your groceries/ other daily goods delivered?

Considering the rising costs of fuel, and the increasingly hectic lives we live, and traffic snarls... could grocery delivery services be a small part of the solution? One vehicle going to the store to pick up food for multiple households rather than each individual driving themselves?

If you think this might be a valid idea, what do you think would be a reasonable amount to charge, considering the money you would be saving people in fuel costs, and the time they would save as well.

Just looking for some friendly input. :)

Market Research: Would you pay to have your groceries/ other daily goods delivered?
This is a great idea, it's not your fault it's already been thought of. As the other answers point out, this is already available in many markets, although I'd be curious to know what the market penetration is. 50% 80%? It's certainly available in Manhattan where I live.

It's possible more people would use the service more if there were better quality control, large clear pictures on websites, a better interactive experience etc. The service is relatively new and perhaps the idea hasn't been executed or advertised as well as it could be (or will be).
Reply:many people like to shop since they are so used to it. Its extremely difficult to change consumers behavior. Theyre used to going food shopping at the store and figuring out what they need there. Plus with gas the cost for services like Stop %26amp; Shops Peapod deliver service have to be going up big time. I dont know if it's that profitable or more of a addon service to pick up more customers by providing more service. There's people out there that will use it, but reaching them will be difficult, maybe try talking to people in condo or apartment complexes so you can do one direct mass delivery instead of home to home all over the place. Goodluck!

Puiggly Wiggly allowed you to enter the store and actually choose the products you wanted... before this, you set up deliveries by stopping by the store's office and filling out a form with the items you wanted, when you wanted them delivered, and how much you were willing to spend. Each delivery had a fresh copy of the list that you returned to the store if you wanted something special. ("No bacon this week," or "We need an extra quart of milk next week.")
Reply:WOW tha'ts a great idea. I would be happy to pay for a grocery delivery service. Some major stores like woolworths and coles already offer such services, so you may have to offer some extra features or cheaper prices. Costs vary from country to country. But maybe doing some online shopping yourself and tabulate costs and prices for comparison. Maybe using more fuel efficient delivery systems like hybrid cars could help lower long term costs and emissions. It would have a higher capital cost but it can provide a competitive advantage by advertising greener delivery alternatives. Great idea Joe.

:)
Reply:My uncle and cousin own a grocery store in a small town in Colorado. They have delivered grocery orders for years and years. They mostly deliver to shut-ins and elderly, but they would take orders from anyone, I'm sure.

I do not know what they charge for the service, but when they go out, they have a route to make the trip as short as possible.

With the internet, it should be possible to key in your shopping list from home. I think they used to take most of the orders over the phone, or people would fill out a slip and have a neighbor bring it in when she came in to do her own shopping.
Reply:I would say that that would be a great idea. You could have energy efficient cars to deliver the groceries. In today's economy, I would charge about ($5-15) extra to the groceries. I would start a membership program and you could save money by using delivered grocies all the time. It just might work.
Reply:I think it's a great idea. It's a service that has already been around for years. My grandmother used to have it done and she died 6 years ago. I wouldn't do it because the grocery store is about 2 miles from my house but if I lived far I would consider it. I would charge an extra 15-20 bucks. I think that is reasonable. You would have to see what competitors are charging though.
Reply:Vons grocery store was running a deal in my area for a little while for free delivery with online purchases (delivery is about $12 otherwise). So...I did it. It was okay, but honestly...I like going to the grocery store better. First of all, it's a block away, so I don't use much gas to get there and back. Second, I don't have a lot of money....so the weekly trip to the grocery store is the one time of the week that I can actually "shop" and not feel bad about it. Finally, I like looking at and touching the food....when we ordered online, I bought a five pound bag of potatoes, and they came all bruised and rooty...if I had had the option to choose in the store, I would have found a better bag. Same with the steaks I ordered....the had a lot of fat on them, and I would have liked the chance to look over my options in the store before purchasing.
Reply:HEY,THIS IS A TERRIFFIC IDEA .i DONT HAVE TO DO ONE THING JUST CALL IN THE ORDER.mAYBE WE COULD ORDER ON THE NET AND PAY ON THE NET OR IN PERSON FOR THOSE WHO FORGOT TO BUY A COMPUTER FOR THE GOLDEN YEARS.YES I WOULD WELCOME DOING HOME SHOPPIN.WE HAVE A STORE HERE IN MY TOWN THAT DELIVERS FOR 6.00 IN THE AREA.iTS A HY-VEE STORE THEY ARE REALLY NICE .bUT MORE OF THIS AND IT WOULD BE A WINNER WITH FOLKS AND SOMEONE COULD CASH IN ON A GREAT DEAL THIS WAY.GOOD THINKING
Reply:Schnucks stores do this in select markets. So yes, you could definately find people willing to pay to have groceries delivered.
Reply:I would be willing to pay $5 for delivery, and I'd probably tip the driver $2.
Reply:Capital thought. 10 - 15 % of the bill or, by weight.
Reply:There are times when I would like to have my groceries delivered since I am disabled, but on a regular basis, I think it would cause more problems than it is worth. I try to only go to the store every couple of weeks as it is and I am only a few blocks from the store.

I like to be able to choose my own fresh foods. Grocery stores would have a tendency to deliver the products that are not selling in the stores, like bruised fruits and veggies and fatty meats, to get them sold without having to mark them down or throw them away.

That being said, canned goods and paper products, pet foods, toiletries, and sodas would be great candidates for delivery.

There are co-ops that can deliver fresh produce on a weekly basis. They will deliver what is in season, and just enough for a week at a time so you don't have a lot of waste. It is a little more expensive than at the grocery, but it is generally all locally grown so it is a lot fresher and hasn't been shipped across the country.

I don't know that I would pay much more for delivery than if I went my self. Maybe $5-$7 depending on how much I ordered and I would tip the driver.

Does anyone know how much a Market Research Practitioner earns in Dubai?

Unless you work for a big multinational company at an executive level or are involved in the construction industry as an engineer or project manager or similar. Then nearly all jobs in Dubai are very poorly paid.

Especially if it is a position that does not require a degree or doctorate.

I imagine that a telemarketer would receive a quite pitiful wage in comparison to what they could earn in Australia, England or the U.S. or Canada.

It is a very expensive country to live in. Particularly if you live outside a company compound.

Maybe you can guess from these monthly figures for Filipinos on entry level (first times)

housemaid/cleaners - min. AED 650

waiters/cashiers and the likes - min AED 750 - 2500++ depending on skill

desk jobs (office) - min. 1200 - 4000

engineers/supervisors - min AED 2500 - 5000

these are only entry level figures and varies depending on the stability and pay scale practiced by companies

HR or Market research? which career path should i take?

I recently graduated with my master's degree in industrial and organizational psychology (applied social psychology). I really like Training and Development, and ultimately want to end up in that feild. But right now I have Market Research experience so I am having more luck finding Market Research analyst positions than HR positions. All the HR positions require at least 2 years experience and still pay low (even for someone with an M.A.). Should I look for market research jobs now and see if I can apply market research experience to HR further down the line?

HR or Market research? which career path should i take?
What's your main priority? Money, career, easy life?

If you prefer an easier life and lesser money as your mentioned, then just go HR.

I think with market research job, you'll get to developed your career further especially when you are out in the field, your opportunity of meeting more people would give you better chance of achieving goals in life. These people you meet might even help you in future, in case you really decided to move to a HR job. If you would to work as a HR now, you'll end up looking at the same faces and newcomers but when you wanna get a new job, you'll need to go through the whole process of applying and waiting.

I feel that market research would be a more challenging and a less routine job also.

So ask yourself honestly what you want.
Reply:I am in HR. I just got my bachelor's degree and have my first HR job that pays horrible. However, you usually have to work your way up in HR to get the better paying positions. HR Managers and even generalists can make very large sums of money. HR jobs are definitely hard to find too. But you have your Master's degree, and often the jobs require a master's degree OR 2+ years experience. It's really up to you. My sister works in marketing, and the pay is comparable.

I want to know of a Pharmaceutical company that will research and market an idea of a drug I have researched?

I know of an active ingredient with an O.T.C. drug that will benefit a large number of people (Not for the purpose it was intended for). But I dont know where to start. I need some suggestions on companies that will listen.

I want to know of a Pharmaceutical company that will research and market an idea of a drug I have researched?
Any pharmaceutical company will probably help you. They make billions of dollars a year, and statistics show that some of these drugs [in particular SSRI's...a form of antidepressants] have caused many people to commit suicide or manslaughter. I have studied this a great deal as a result of my 20 year old son's suicide...in his will he wrote that "paxil and effexor are evil drugs made for the profit of pharmaceutical companies with no care of what they do to a person's mind or body...the side effects are so bad and they are impossible to get off...look on Google and look up what horrible experiences others have had on these drugs." So I did, and I made a website in honor of my son and I found hundreds of articles attesting to my son's claim...in Britain they have banned all [except for one] antidepressants for children and young adults due to the rate of suicides while on these drugs. Ricky Williams, a football runner back was paid by the pharmaceutical company that makes paxil to endorse it and he ended up stating, ''Marijuana is 10 times better for me than Paxil,'' I have at least 60 -70 articles on warnings against these pills and on the suicide rates, etc as well as the FDA warnings and Health Canada's warnings about the use of these pills. If you want go ahead and give your idea to a pharmaceutical company, do it, but please realize that once it is in their hands, they won't care if it's beneficial to others or not. My son died while on Effexor XR. He is just another statistic to the pharmaceutical company that made and sells this drug. I read that a wife of an employee of a pharmaceutical company was on one of their antidepressants and subsequently committed suicide...is she just thought of a dead statistic like all others who have died while on these drugs...no, she is thought of a dear family member to them because it finally hit their home. {Not all drugs are bad, mind you,,,but I do want to add that one man wrote that trying to get off effexor is "worse than getting off of heroin"]
Reply:One of the strongest research companies I can think of is Astra Zeneca. They have "stragler" places throughout the US, Canada, and over-seas, and are based in Sweden. They have a very extensive website: www@astrazeneca.com. Good luck!

Can anyone provide me any research topics on marketing??

i'm a mktng undergrad, i nid to do a research topic ,..

eg:like do powernap work during office hours?..or what r the few eg of positive adverts for kids?

need ideas!!~~thanks,,,

Can anyone provide me any research topics on marketing??
There are numerous topics that you can choose from: In Marketing - there are the 4Ps (Product, Price, Place and Promotions). In each P, you can do research on: ex. Product - You can research on the topic: "What are the various ways that a company can do in coming up with new product ideas?"; Pricing: "What are the pricing strategies that have been employed by companies to combat competition?": Place: "What are the new trends in distribution (Marketing Channels), wholesaling and retailing that have significant?"; Promotions: Topic on "Explore new Promotion approaches to catch the attention of the gray market" - Good luck on your research
Reply:Check out myownbusiness.org- great recourses.
Reply:Hi, perhaps you can try Google adwords to market your service/product.

Google adwords is a text-based system for advertising on its site and its partner sites. The service allows you to create your own ads, choose keywords to help match your ads to your audience, and control the cost of your advertising—you pay only when people click on your ad (a cost per click plan). Anyone wishing to promote a product on Google can enroll in this program.

you can get a 5 detail pages information about Google adwords at :

Good Luck %26amp;%26amp; Best Wishes!
Reply:I Found my source quite usefull for and marketing questions... mainly internet marketing but the information works the same online, on paper, or on T.V...

I also found http://www.affiliatetier.com/directory.p... to be usefull
Reply:I would pick something you like or buy- you will be more motivated and become a better consumer. For instance, do you like make-up or beauty products? If so, how about researching how Sephora markets so successfully. If you like music, why not research how music gets into stores- look at Handleman, as they deliver all the top picks to selling giants like Wal-Mart. Look at Proctor and Gamble- do you know how many new product launches they do a year and how many fail? (More than you might probably guess).

Look at the statistics for small businesses and the marketing challenges they have due to limited funds. Ever heard of the book "Guerrilla Marketing"- read and review that book- tons of ideas for small businesses and effective ways of getting the word out.

Consider the show "The Apprentice"- research how many companies want product placement on that show and how much it costs.

Good luck.

Do we need research for marketing?

That's why there is a whole field of MARKET RESEARCH, which can be both qualitative and quantitative research

You need research to know your audience, what they want, waht they like or not like about your products. Example of market studies:

- Name test -- among several options, which name rings better with potential buyer

- Usage research -- how are users currently using the product

- Taste test -- food companies often prepare several

versions of their products and conduct research as to which taste consumers prefer

- Demographic research -- what is the age, sex, income, educational attainment, etc of your customers or potential market

I even had a client from a top company before who wanted to conduct a market research to see if grocery shoppers prefer taller table napkins stacked taller than the ones that sort of sags after a few days on the grocery aisle.

Top companies such as Procter or Gamble are very obsessive as to how the packaging of their new Tide product and other products should look -- and conduct lots of tests before releasing it to the market.

Even online companies are doing a lot of market research -- especially on the look and feel of their website and how users navigate their site.

Then there's focus group discussions where a moderator asks series of questions in the hope of understanding the concerns, needs and wants of their target market based on the sample group

Do we need research for marketing?
if you dont research the best methods of marketing your product or service and get a solid understanding of your customers, how could you possibly justify your decisions moving forward? No research = sure failure

braces for teeth

Do you think people use this site for market research?

You can treat the responses here as you would focus group data - with CAUTION:

* The sample is NOT REPRESENTATIVE of the overall population.

* Respondents are SELF SELECTORS (hand raisers)

* One CANNOT VALIDATE that respondents are members of their target market.

Even so, the benefit is that "Yahoo! Answers" are free and immediate. The BEST application for this website is EXPORATORY research. Depending on the subject people will be able to provide feedback to new ideas and concepts. They can tell you about it's merit, what they like, what they dislike, what they agree with and disagree with. People here may provide feedback to help you further refine your concept before you go to the expense of a more reliable form of market research.

Do you think people use this site for market research?
This is an excellent site with which to take the pulse of society and culture. You tend to get all kinds in here. Some are just interested in giving catchy little sarcastic answers. Ignore those. Look for the answers with substance, most of them will be in that category. You have all ages, both genders, radical ideas and conservative ones. You won't have to go far to get the kind of feedback you can get in here. So, yes, i immagine that people do use this site for market research.
Reply:I have seen some questions looking for opinions for market research, but I doubt the information is very useful. It's not a representative sample and the number of responses are too few to generalize to a larger population.

But it's free and easy, so I suppose it's better than making decisions with no market research at all.
Reply:Yes and I also take surveys for free.
Reply:What better way to pull together a focus group on the fly.

Market research for sweet baked goods?

I have an interview in 2 weeks with a company called Sweet Life Inc. Ever heard of it? I need to do some research not only on them, but also on the sweet baked goods indusrty in general. Can anoyone direct me to some free or cheap sources? So far everyone I found is pretty expensive (over $2,000) in some cases for a simple report.

Any help is appreciated.

Market research for sweet baked goods?
In general, market research reports are going to be VERY expensive. Thats because good research is labor-intensive and takes a good while to compile. Sometimes economic development and redevelopment/reinvestment organizations will have basic reports available but I doubt they will have anything that specific. You can do a little homework on the company by reading BBB reports and researching their incorporation at the State Attorney General's office. Check out their website too. That should give you enough background for an interview. Sorry I cannot give better news.

Is it proper for Sainsburys to be using this site for market research?

I got a violation for telling them to "clear off" in a reply to one of their questions.

I have reported people for far worse abuses without any action being taken.Do Sainsbury own yahoo?

Is it proper for Sainsburys to be using this site for market research?
They don't own Yahoo and shouldn't be using us to do their research for them.

Edited...

Found more information. Sainsbury is listed as an official on their profile. They haven't answered any questions so they have no best answers. They must be in the UK judging by how they spell certain words.

Sainsbury is the sponsor for the Food and Drink category. I can see why Yahoo doesn't want people to tell them to clear off. Yahoo would lose the advertising dollars if they left.

Reply:Why is it wrong? If they say they are Sainsbury's, and that they are doing research, then people can decide freely if they want to answer or not. So I see absolutely no problem.

If they are posting questions, with the intent to use the answers - and if they are not stating clearly that they are doing research - than that violates the marketing reseach code of ethics, and yes, it's wrong. Whether or not they reveal their name, if they do clearly state that they are doing marketing research, remains their choice.

If they are, however, just reading answers and learning - nothing wrong with that. Anything published in the public domain without copyright can be read / used by anyone! As has been pointed out, if they are reading what the "general public" has to say, and modifying what they do to better suit it - then we all gain!

Are you sure it's them? How can you tell? And no, they don't own Yahoo!

Is the Prelude to the Dream Pay-per-view being used as market research for future NASCAR pay-per-views?

With NASCAR adopting the Gordon Gecko “greed is good” philosophy do you think that they are pushing the Prelude to the Dream for market research? Do you think that it may be possible that NASCAR is looking at putting “special” NASCAR events on pay-per-view? Or even putting the entire 10 race chase on pay-per-view in the future once the television contracts expire? What do you think?

Is the Prelude to the Dream Pay-per-view being used as market research for future NASCAR pay-per-views?
That's a scary idea, I could see the All-Star race as a trial ballon first. The problem is dealing with the rain out refunds.
Reply:No, it is not even a NASCAR sanctioned event. They tried Pay-per-View several years ago, and it didn't sell very well. The in-car on demand stuff is plenty for now, and is a good complement to the regular coverage.
Reply:The Gordon Gecko "greed is good" comment is from the movie "Wall Street"
Reply:no it was on pay per view because it was a charity race the money from the pay per view went to the victory junction gang ,which is a great cause ,they only did this as a fundraiser for kyle pettys camp
Reply:Well if it is I'm not buying into it again! Not after what they pulled with tonights race! Read my post and you'll see why I'm so mad!!
Reply:Since it's not really a NASCAR event, and since it's a fundraiser for charity (with proceeds going to Victory Junction and the Tony Stewart Foundation), I'm guessing that the answer is NO.
Reply:NO, because it is not a NASCAR event.

"With NASCAR adopting the Gordon Gecko “greed is good” philosophy..."

Where the heck did you come up with that line?
Reply:I doubt it very much

No

I'm surprised thay already haven't done the pay per view thing.

Them putting the chase on PPV would be great. Think about it. No comercials.

Last nights race was strickly to help out the kids. I don't think it had anything to do with some sort of poll to see if PPV would work.

I am 100% agianst the chase so it wouldn't be a big deal to me to have it put on PPV.

If they are doing a tornament type ending to the year then they should do it like a tournament. As the year goes on you have stages where if your not in the top 30 your season is done.

then 20 and

then there was 10 cars.

And now you have your chase.

This is how tounaments work.

So if you are going to pretend that is a tournament (which that is what they are trying to make you think) Then you have to do it to the hilt.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have to drive a car in those last 10 races knowing that you are driving for 11th place. Weather you could win the championship or not to seperate them like that just doesn't seem right.
Reply:they already have pay per view. It's called cable/satellite. It's not 20 -50 bucks a race but if you don't subscribe for that service starting this week you don't see another race until the Chase. All sports do it. look at the NFL with ESPN w/ MNF and the NFL network with their Thurs. and Saturday games. The difference is in the other sports you have games for free to chose from each week in Nascar you only get 1 race per week. So if you don't buy cable or satellite you are out of luck.

What is marketing information system ?

i do not know what is the difference between marketing information system and management information system.

Also what is the difference between marketing information system and marketing research ?

What is marketing information system ?
A marketing information system (for me as a marketing pro) is commonly what people would also call either a CRM/Customer Relationship Management or SFA/Sales Force Automation system. Essentially, those systems give me a picture of all interactions with a customer or prospect across my entire enterprise, and gives me data I can analyze %26amp; use for action. Some people might call it a "front office" system because it's customer-facing (marketing campaigns, support %26amp; service history, sales actions, etc.), as opposed to a Management Information System that people might call a "back office system" because it's more of an internal thing (financials, inventory management, forecasting, etc).

As a practical example a marketing information system can be used for managing %26amp; executing campaigns, targeting specific markets, tracking responses, etc. When I look at the analytics (click-thrus, promo fulfilments, leads created, etc) it gives me an idea of what people are/aren't responding to. I learn what campaign %26amp; messaging is effective %26amp; which isn't. I can analyze my marketing spend vs. results to fine-tune my marketing plan. And I can also generate a profile of who my customers are... to find demographic profile data so I can find more like them. For the bonus points good marketing should cross-reference that data against sales results and forecasts... resulting in a "REAL WORLD" results anaylsis of marketing "bang for the buck." Additionally, customer analysis is also of value... it can validate/correct our presumptions (e.g. we might think our customers are an X type of businesses, but looking at our data, we might find out they really are a Y type of business).

A marketing information system vs. marketing research? In my opinion the first is a tool, whereas the other is an exercise or data point.

Gee, and here I was all ready to answer your question and you have not bothered to complete it. So, given the limited information, I would say that "t" is a function of the popularity of the market research statistics. Given the value of "t" to be naught, what with the limited information and all, I would guess that I would have to venture into the realm of "questions in voting" to actually pick a best answer. I don't really bother with that anymore, so I am just amusing myself in responding to this question destined for the boneyard. Yes, I realize I am talking to myself at the moment.

I need some feedback on this eBay survey for my MBA market research class?
The questions seem well-worded and easy to understand, but the survey is probably longer than it needs to be. Do you really need all those questions to understand the fee increase issue? Your response rate will suffer if it takes too long. I suggest you go through the questions again and delete those that are not relevant to the main purpose.

I have a market research exam in 25 mins. Can someone explain methods of sampling to me?

You have about 10 minutes to memorise the following:

Sampling is simply taking data gained from surveying a small portion of a population and using it to predict certain features about the entire population. We use sampling for several reasons:

(1)to save money,

(2)to save time,

(3)to be more accurate,

(4)to avoid destruction or contamination of a product.

Definitions

Element: unit about which information is sought e.g. individuals, products etc.

Population: All the elements defined prior to selection of the sample. It has four parts: elements, sampling units, extent, and time.

Elements: males or females aged 8 – 80 who have watched an existing TV programme

Time : in the past 30 days.

Units: households

Time: March 2003-03-07

Sampling unit: The element or elements available for selection at some stage of the sampling process, e.g. females 20-40, males 18-24 etc.

Sampling frame: A list that identifies the target population. It is a list of all sampling units available e.g. Telephone Directory. The frame defines the unit. Target population minus operational population = sample gap. Combine lists to minimise sample gap.

Study Population: The group of elements from which the sample is drawn.

Stages Involved In Sampling

Who is to be surveyed?

How many should be surveyed?

How should the sample respondents be chosen?

Screening questions define who should and should not be included.

1.Define the target population

2.Identify the sampling frame

3.Determine sample size: Study objectives, time constraints, cost constraints, data analysis procedures.

4.Select sampling procedure – various techniques available

5. Select the sample

Probability Sampling Designs

Each element in the population has a known chance of being selected in the sample.

a.Simple Random Sampling – Each element in the population has an equal chance of being selected. It is used in all complex probability sample designs. For example, suppose we want a simple random sample of two cases from a population of five:

Five Cases: A, B, C, D, E. Ten Possible Pairs: AB, AC, AD, AE, BC, BD, BE, CD, CE, and DE.

Each combination has a 1/10 chance of being selected. Each case has a 4/10 chance of being selected.

b.Multi-Stage Sampling - Where it would cost too much to send researchers all over the country, multi-stage sampling is used to reduce the cost. The procedure is as follows:

1.Divide the country into dozens of regions.

2.Select three or four areas using random sampling methods.

3.Divide these into dozens of areas again and select three or four again.

Continue dividing and selecting until the areas are small enough to make Random Sampling methods possible.

c.Systematic Sampling – The researcher selects every nth in the frame after a random start, i.e., uniform intervals. Example: a telephone book of 400 pages with 400 listings per page has 160,000 numbers. If we require a sample of 1,000, we take every 160th item and begin with a random number between 1 and 160. There is high likelihood of bias if some unknown pattern occurs in the process.

a.Stratified Sampling – Defined population is divided into mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive sub-groups. Let’s look at the difference in wages between male and female workers. Across the UK, there are four female workers for every five males. The procedure is:

1.Decide the total sample size (say 1000)

2.Divide this into groups (strata) with the same proportion as the population (400 females and 500 males).

3.Select the 400 females and 500 males using random numbers.

4.Add the results together.

Benefits: We can do analysis within strata with a smaller standard error than that available for the whole sample. Thus, our confidence interval is smaller, too. Most companies use stratified sampling. Example: suppose we are asked to monitor the retail sales of Folger’s coffee. To do this, we want to measure the unit sales level of Folger’s in a sample of stores. What stratification variables should we use? We should first answer the question: What factors contribute to the variability in the variable we intend to measure. (Size of store, day of the week, region of the country)

b.Cluster Sampling - The country is divided into areas as with Multi-Stage Sampling. Researchers are sent to the areas with instructions to interview every person who meets the desired criteria, e.g., every mother with a child aged under one year old.

Designing Cluster Samples

How homogeneous are the clusters?

Shall we seek equal or unequal clusters?

How large a cluster shall we take?

Shall we use a single-stage or multistage cluster?

How large a sample is needed.

c. Area Sampling - is a sampling of areas. Suppose we want to run an in-home test of a new shampoo. We decide to run this test in Birmingham. An accurate list of all households is not available. So we select an area sample as follows:

1. List all city areas in Birmingham.

2. Choose a simple random or systematic sample.

3. Attempt to place the product in all households in the chosen area.

Non-probability Sampling

The selection of the population element is based in some part at the discretion of the researcher or interviewer.

When to use

Procedure satisfactorily meets the sampling objectives

Lower Cost than Probability sampling

When time is limited

Not as much human error as selecting a completely random sample

Total list population not available

Types of Non-probability Sampling

c.Convenience Sampling – Samples are selected on the basis of convenience of the researchers. No sample design is used. Choice left to interviewer. Example: having employees test a new product. Unlikely to be any more than of some help in designing a research project and sample design.

d.Judgement Sampling – Samples are selected on the basis of what some expert thinks these particular sampling units will contribute to the research problem. Used more often in industrial than consumer research. Example: if 80% of business comes from 20% of customers, judgement will take a sample of half of the 20% and half of the 80%. Judgement cancels out sampling errors as long as sub-groups are represented among the 80%.

e.Quota Sampling – Researcher takes explicit steps to obtain a sample that is similar to the population on a specified ‘control’ characteristics. These characteristics might be knowledge of proportions of sub-groups among a population. Interviewers fill in proportional “cells”. Leads to substantial bias that cannot be measured. Students research ACORN types and groups.

Response Errors

Such errors occur when :

Giving an answer that will please the interviewer

Wishing to appear socially acceptable or politically correct

Faulty memory, fatigue or nature of questions

Unfamiliarity with subject matter

Interviewer influence

Avoid with screening questions that prove respondent has enough information

Avoid bias in wording of questions

Test questionnaire in a pilot study

Train interviewers to avoid influencing respondents’ answers

Small Population Samples

Used when researching the effects of prescription drugs among a small number of patients.

Direct screening – Using telephone or in a shopping centre. Waste of interviewer time, slow and expensive.

Two-phase Screening - The first identifies people who qualify and the second gets the required data from them. Use Cluster sampling, omnibus studies or panels.

Stratification – using demographic characteristics to identify areas of concentration then adopting a main technique.

Multiframe Sampling – a list of the desired population is incomplete or not available so use two frames.

High yield Clusters – using Systematic sampling methods to identify clusters by telephone.

Snowballing – having found one qualifying respondent, we ask him or her to identify others to develop a network of contacts. Each network becomes the sampling unit.

I have a market research exam in 25 mins. Can someone explain methods of sampling to me?
You take something. Thats it. Good luck!!
Reply:So, for your high-level course exam, this is your preparation?

Gotta love that!
Reply:oh dear, sampling is simply where you get your sample of interviewies from. so you may be using RDD random digit dialing, or u may be using a database used for more specific cases, such as specific groups i.e for a survey on truck tyres you only want business with trucks. or a survey on radio listening trends amongst teenagers would require a teenage sample. etc. good luck is it for a job? if so which company is it? is it IpsosMori?

How can business graveyard be affected by market research and market infomation system?

Yes indeed - the location of UK's "business graveyard" is totally determined by research (eg. into insolvency rates) and plainly the conclusion depends on how good your information systems are ..

... and (of course) how 'out of date' that information is.

To get a 'true' picture of the worst area for business it is necessary to compare business start-ups V business failures .. and these figures themselves must be expressed in terms of population density ..

Since population density is almost impossible to measure you end up with various 'reports' claim Scotland, the North East or even the Midlands as UK's "business graveyard"

Ask Peter Humphries or Chuck Norris! :P

What are the best methods of acquiring market and competitive research for your industry?

In my case, my industry happens to be retail clothing for athletes in action sports, but I am assuming we could connect with varying people trying to help each other and sharing their methods for acquiring this kind of information without having to pay literally THOUSANDS of dollars. Can anyone share their best methods in detail?

What are the best methods of acquiring market and competitive research for your industry?
The online versions of the top business magazines all have archives and white papers for free. Check out Fortune, Forbes and Inc Magazine. Hoover's is also a great resource for company and industry information.

Our county library has an online database that is keyword searchable for thousands of newspapers, magazines and trade publications.

The information is out there, you just have to spend some time digging.

Good luck.
Reply:You can get many ideas by searching small businesses on this site:

Reply:Go to your main library branch and talk to the librarian. Most of them will be able to pull up current research trends for you and tell you where your resources are in your community. Small business centres and government agents all can provide this information as well, but start at your local library.

I did this when starting several businesses and got excellent information that resulted in some top notch business plans. Best of all: IT'S FREE.

Where can i find market research based on EBAY and MYSPACE --HELP!!!?
It is not easy to get market statistics on these companies as most of their marketing studies are proprietary. However there are some press releases that can give you data on their usage and demographics

Comscore has released some demographics and usage data on MySpace
