Most analysts I've worked with have marketing or social science degrees. I can't stress enough to build a strong base in social science research methods and statistical analysis. These are the foundation of a lot of market research methodologies.
What's a good major to become a market research analyst?
You have plenty of options. A few specific majors to consider are business, econ, math (statistics), and even sociology.
I know it sounds cliche, but it's absolutely true that employers are looking for well-rounded hard workers, regardless of your undergraduate field of study. Summer internships and work experience can be more beneficial for your resume.
Personally, almost none of my friends work in the field they studied in college and almost all of them are very successful at what they do.
Reply:I would recommend either business, marketing, or communication. Look at other majors within this same general area.
Pick the one you like the most (look at the required courses and look at the one that most excites you) as your major, and choose another one as a minor.
I know that through business/marketing/communication you might also study advertising and interpersonal trends and cause-and effect of consumer goods-- these skills would help you as well.
Try to stay well-rounded though. It's very important.
