Is it proper for Sainsburys to be using this site for market research?

I got a violation for telling them to "clear off" in a reply to one of their questions.

I have reported people for far worse abuses without any action being taken.Do Sainsbury own yahoo?

They don't own Yahoo and shouldn't be using us to do their research for them.

Edited...

Found more information. Sainsbury is listed as an official on their profile. They haven't answered any questions so they have no best answers. They must be in the UK judging by how they spell certain words.

Sainsbury is the sponsor for the Food and Drink category. I can see why Yahoo doesn't want people to tell them to clear off. Yahoo would lose the advertising dollars if they left.
Reply:Where is this, I want a look?
Reply:you don't have to answer the question if you don't want to but if you look at the recipes for their current 5 a day promotion you will see that they have adapted some of the ideas they have received so therefore everyone benefits
Reply:check the thumbs up to the answers also????

seems to get 4-5 for a particular one every time?????
Reply:No-one is forced into answering their questions.
Reply:where is this question In wanna look! and yes it is wrong!
Reply:Violations are so common now and for the most ridiculous things......don't bother emailing Mr. Yahoo.....i've sent at least 20 after receiving violations and never had a reply.
Reply:Why is it wrong? If they say they are Sainsbury's, and that they are doing research, then people can decide freely if they want to answer or not. So I see absolutely no problem.

If they are posting questions, with the intent to use the answers - and if they are not stating clearly that they are doing research - than that violates the marketing reseach code of ethics, and yes, it's wrong. Whether or not they reveal their name, if they do clearly state that they are doing marketing research, remains their choice.

If they are, however, just reading answers and learning - nothing wrong with that. Anything published in the public domain without copyright can be read / used by anyone! As has been pointed out, if they are reading what the "general public" has to say, and modifying what they do to better suit it - then we all gain!

Are you sure it's them? How can you tell? And no, they don't own Yahoo!
Reply:I don;t think so, but it's hard to argue against it.

What did Y!A say (if anything?)
Reply:i dont think they should be allowed to advertise on here, dont they think they have enough annoying adverts on the telly! drives me up the wall
